I love using meaningful word games in the classroom. So do my students! It’s fun to watch them work hard, even though they think they’re hardly working at all, when trying to combine letters or categorize words, while playing games. Their defenses are definitely lowered and even the ones you *think* aren’t paying attention in class can have some amazing growth during games. It builds community and a friendly competitive atmosphere…what’s not to love?
I focused this post on word game freebies from TPT because, quite honestly, there are some utterly awesome freebie games. You could also use some of these as centers or stations or extra credit, depending on how you structure your classroom.
And if you do decide to download, be sure to leave positive feedback for the sellers. Let them know their work made the world (and the words ;-)) a better place!
