Happy Spring! Do the colors in this Spring in Our Step linky feel like spring has truly sprung? They sure do to me, and I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing giveaway hosted by Inspired Owls’ Corner and PAWSitively Teaching. Lots of posts will be centered on classrooms, as they should. But since I have only taught for one week out of the last seven, I’m opting for a more personal post. This winter was tough. I mean TOUGH. We had seven days off of school, all totalled, due to snow, ice and temperatures that could have frozen the buttons off a snowman. No temperature should EVER start with a negative sign, and we had one day that dropped to -25F. Ridiculous.
Our milestone is that we lived to tell about it…lol. Miss O., hubby and myself managed to dig out and face the sunshine of spring earlier this week–so let me take you there through photos.
One of Miss O.’s driveway shoveling sessions with hubby. The girl loves snow. She’s my baby!
Even though the temperature stinks in winter, the landscape does not. This is a shot of the back deck of a local metropark where I spent a late winter weekend being creative with my SoulCollage sisters. It was so much fun to catch up and make beautiful cards. Here’s a collection of mine from that day:
The best part of winter? It’s over! While it’s still cold outside, I found a couple of spring-y signs around the yard this week:
Green buds on the lilac bush
…and a lonely snow drop under my maple tree. My grandmother always called these snow drops, but I don’t know if that’s the true name. Do you?
Winter is a hugely busy time for our family. Hubby is a basketball coach, the kid is a sports journalist covering basketball and we are season ticket holders for the Columbus Blue Jackets. With all that activity, something has to go…and it’s usually my hobby of baking. It really seems silly because with the cold temperatures outside, wouldn’t you want to warm the house with baking? But cleaning up the baking messes takes energy that I’d rather use to nap…lol.
This week, I celebrated spring by starting to bake again. I found this YUMMY recipe on Pinterest some time ago that I have been dying to try for overnight cinnamon rolls. While the boys were at the state basketball championships last night, I made the rolls and refrigerated them. Baked them this morning.
OH. MY. GOSH. So yummy. And just freaking easy. I really have no excuse ever to buy those rolls-in-a-can again (but I probably will).
The recipe was an Alton Brown specialty. I love that guy. Science and food. What’s not to love?

And here’s one of mine:
(the icing was DELICIOUS. We’re also eating these for dessert as I speak!)
Miss O. wanted to get in on the baking celebration, too…
(that’s her begging off of my son. It worked. He gave in.)
One of my friends from childhood (we were friends before kindergarten as our parents went to school together) posted a Facebook photo of his adorable daughter planning to go into kindergarten next fall. How time flies! I thought it would be fun to send her a little congratulations package with some stylish Hello Kitty sunglasses and a photo of her dad from our kindergarten class. I conveniently cropped myself out of this version, but I should have stayed in. I think it was the last time I was cute!
(yes, I still have my kindergarten photo. I have all my yearbooks. Great memories. Most of us went to school together from kindergarten to graduation. One of the perks of growing up in a small town!)
Now, this isn’t a trick, but I do have a freebie for you…just not yet. I’m working to get my April Lessons and Loves printable up. I’m almost done, and will be either later today or early tomorrow. Stop back and I promise to have it ready to go.
You haven’t downloaded one of them yet? Now’s the time to start, with the school year nearing a close. It’s a daily journal for noting the better parts of your day with kiddos for reflection and memories. Even though it doesn’t feel like it in February, the year is about to zip right by.
And to thank you for reading, here’s the Rafflecopter giveaway box. Good luck, enter often and have a wonderful spring! I’d love to hear about the best parts of your spring so far in the comments.
