October is such a bittersweet month. It has a beauty all its own that starts with the last green holdouts of summer and slowly, quietly morphs into a golden, colorful explosion here in Ohio. You want to hold those moments in your hand, but they slip away so quickly…
…which happens to be somewhat the theme of one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers. When October Goes by Barry Manilow (yes, Barry! I saw that look!) really puts an emotion to the season that mirrors what many of us feel. This YouTube selection puts beautiful fall clips to the music. Just try not to feel sentimental as you watch, I dare you! (It would also be great for imagery and poetry lessons.)
With the school year routine mostly down, October also brings back the bustle of trying to fit chores between family schedules and daily life–where dirty dishes and dust bunnies collect. One of my Instagram favorites to follow is Becky, @CleanMama, who helps bring focus to our fleeting cleaning time with her daily cleaning posts. And if you have more time or want a full month of cleaning suggestions, she has those too. All free!
Now that you’re back in the classroom, are the blog post ideas coming, too? If you’ve taken a break or hiatus from regular posting and want to find a way back in to the routine, check out the several thoughtful suggestions in Natalie Jean Miller’s video to help you get those fingers on the keyboard for your readers.
If you follow me on Instagram, (@MorrowTeaches), you know I like pretty things. I have always believed that life is too short for black and white, so this summer I’ve fallen in love with @bydawnnicole–she offers free, gorgeous digital screen calendars every month. October’s is so perfect! Click on the image below (or here) to download her loveliness for yourself.
And if you like Dawn Nicole’s designs, you’ll love the May Designs (@maydesigns) October desktop calendar freebies as well. They’ve got a really pretty colorblocking theme working that makes it hard to choose! Right now I’m feeling the navy/aqua combo…what about you?
Wishing you a wonderful October!
