For a few weeks, my crafty side has been eyeing the Monday Made It linky party hosted by Tara at 4th Grade Frolics.
Since summer allows me to mentally decompress and spend time doing crafty things I love, I’ve been doing lots. (A big project will be done in 3 more weeks and I’ll be sure to share it when I’m done. Teaser: it involves a bedroom wall, hot pink paint and polka dot decals…!)
The problem is that I don’t get around to taking pictures. This time, I remembered! It’s not a whole line up of projects (just one) and it’s not something super-uber cute for my classroom (I mostly buy those things…see my previous post about my (lack of) clip art skills), but it’s something I’m proud of and that’s cute to boot!
It all started with a shirt I found early in the summer. The lighting doesn’t do it justice–it’s a really sweet, orange sherbet color (which shows off a tan very nicely!)
I loved the shirt, but had a problem: I had absolutely no earrings to wear with it. None. Silver looked too garish and gold too bland. And while I love the sherbet-y color (think push-up pops!), I am not normally an orange kinda girl (except a few pieces, and no jewelry). What to do?
Rummage through my box of collected beads. See, I collect beads. By collect, I mean I buy really gorgeous, unusual, pretty, vibrant, bright beads when I have a big coupon from JoAnn Fabric or Michaels Craft store for no other reason than to dream about making something with them. Of all my crafty abilities, I never managed to pick up bead work, and it’s the one I most wish I could do. Maybe I should take a class?
Anyway, I found a couple of amazing beads that matched the shirt 99.9%. (The photos don’t show it…that yuckky lighting again!) And instead of wishing, I got my needle nose pliers and did something…I *MADE* earrings to go with the shirt.
So that’s my Monday Made It: cute earrings. I’m sure as the school year gets started I’ll have tons more to share (if the linky keeps going!). What about you? What’s something amazing you’ve made recently?
Oh, and a little sneak-peek of the hot pink project I mentioned above. Come back in September to see the whole thing!
