Happy Sunday, all!
Hope this post finds you somewhere on the continuum of counting down the days til break. Even my friends who teach at year-round schools have a tally of days to keep them inspired.
I’m one of the lucky ones who finished Friday. Yay! This year was a tough one, probably the most difficult year in 20 years of teaching. But I’m working to forget all the fiascos…testing, certification changes, testing, student disciplinary issues, testing…I think you get the idea! I like to use summer to completely move on so that I start with a fresh mindset and perspective.
I will start planning my instruction sometime in July, but for me, the next few weeks are just about relaxing. We aren’t taking any big vacations, but I don’t need fancy to enjoy summer. In fact, the opposite is quite true.
Today’s Sunday Scoop is about playing catch-up to several things I’ve neglected over the last few days/weeks. We have had some health developments in our family that have made my time not my own. Knock on wood, we are finding ourselves back in a close-to-familiar routine where we all like to live.
3 things I have to do
*catch up on my new planner project. I don’t know about you, but I’m kind of a planner addict. Like I’m always changing out my planners for something new that I hope will work to contain my entire life. I have tried every system and planner out there with varying results. In my life, I keep a planner full of to-dos and appointments and I write (almost) daily in a journal, but there’s nothing out there to combine those things effectively.
While surfing through Pinterest pages, I stumbled across two separate types of planner ideas that each seem to be what I need. The big one is the Bullet Planner system, and I was wildly excited by it. (If you’re curious, stop back Wednesday as my post will be partially devoted to the idea). I was so smitten I immediately ordered a blank book and a couple of extra materials from Amazon to start mine in June. It arrived Thursday, so I’ve been setting things up and practicing a little bit to get in the swing of things. I am loving it! It’s a system of very simple symbols to indicate different planner items such as tasks, events, birthdays, etc., and a way to keep track of all those crazy ideas I have that I want to try in life and class.
I wanted to update it today with yesterday’s event. My dear friend Travis and his long-time girlfriend Julie got married last night, and I want to make a page for that. I’m combining this Bullet planner idea with a type of journal/smashbook/art journal/scrapbooky idea so that I don’t have to lug around 2-3 journals constantly.
I am planning to make a series of posts about this idea once I get the planner off the ground, so stick around and see how it works out…
*Finish and schedule Wednesday’s Pinterest linky post. The Bullet planner, as my current Pinterest obsession, will be featured in the linky post. I’ve got most of it done, just want to add a few more photos and explanations. I might even share a photo of my own new planner, so stop by…
*Menu plan. This last month or two, both my menu planning and my healthy eating have slacked off. I have been fascinated by the idea of eating clean, so this summer, I’m going to work hard on making that a part of my life. The only big problem is that I will have to shop for fresh produce more often, and I despise grocery shopping…I guess that’s the price we have to pay, huh?
2 things I hope to do
*Catch up on household chores. This goes back to the health issues and the time they took us away from daily maintenance…lol. Dishes and laundry, laundry and dishes. Sound familiar? I said in a Sunday Scoop months ago that I refused to mention these two dirty words again, but they are about to overtake my life. You should always speak your fears out loud to lessen them, right? LOL.
*Mow between monsoons. We have had ridiculous downpours here in C’bus these last few days. I managed to mow our front yard on Friday night, but the back yard is looking like we might be able to bale hay if we wait for another storm to roll through. I have to bag it because of our pool, and it’s going to be a big job. But if I don’t do it between rains, it will be knee-high (probably by tonight…lol).
1 thing I’m happy to do:
*start summer break tomorrow. Mostly likely, I won’t sleep in, since the sun wakes me up, but it will be nice to have my time to myself. A cup of coffee, an early-morning walk with Miss O and a little time with my new planner…and everyone thinks teachers live such a wild life in the summer…!
How about you? How many days left? Or what awesome fun things do you have planned for your time away? I’d love to hear!
In the meantime, enjoy your Sunday!
